From the London Magazine for the month of July.
TO THE REV. MR. WHITEFIELD.
Sweet is thy voice, and manly is thy strain,
Nor does thy wak'ning trumpet sound in vain.
Then still go on, proclaim thy Master's laws.
Warm'd with the promise of thy Lord's applause,
. . . [1 column]
These be thy theme! Whilst hills to hills resound,
And the vales eccho the returning sound
Of song divine (all by thy voice inspir'd)
From thousand tongues, with love to goodness fir'd:
Ten thousand tongues shall sing their Maker's praise,
Whilst thou, by truths, divine their passions raise.
